Introduction of Laboratory and Pathology:

Laboratory and Pathology is located in level one. This unit of Tehran Children Hospital provides high quality of services to all hospitalized patient and also casualty patients for 24 hour under supervision of high experienced specialists. Provided services is in these areas:

  • Immunology
  • Biochemistry
  • Serology and Hormone
  • Microbiology
  • Parasitology
  • Pathology

Furthermore, the laboratory delivers sampling services with sending expert to homes. Clinical Laboratory of Tehran Children Hospital is equipped with the latest equipment and lab technology. This laboratory is capable to registering and answering all tests which are necessary for patients in different specialty and subspecialty.

Casualty patients’ registration time is 7am to 7 pm. In addition, emergency tests are done for 24 hour by laboratory.

Pathology:

Surgical Pathology: Analysis and Interpretation sample submissions

Cytoplasm Pathology:  Cell microscopic evaluation of urine

Preparations before testing:

  1. The night before the test, have a light dinner.
  2. 12 to 1 hours before test, do not have food, liquid, Types of chocolate and chewing gum.
  3. There is no problem to drink lots of water.
  4. It is OK to brush teeth
  5. About use or stop taking medicine before test, you should consult with your doctor.

*Observe fasting in different tests:

  1. Fasting blood glucose test: 2 hours after the last meal, Serum glucose level will decrease to fasting blood glucose level. Despite this, Observance of 8 hours fasting is recommended. 
  2. Lipid testing except total cholesterol: 14 hours is necessary.
  3. Urea test:  Since 2-3 days before the tests, keep away from eating lots of meet but 4 hours fasting in enough.
  4. Uric acid test:  At least 4 hours fasting is necessary.
  5. Calcium, Phosphor, Sodium, potassium, Iron and Ferritin: 4 hours fasting is necessary.
  6. Other tests: Usually fasting is not necessary but due to effect of fat foods on Serum and results, abstaining fatty foods or general fasting is recommended.

*Correct collecting urine samples for direct test and urine culture:

  1. The best sample is morning urine.
  2. First part of sample is not appropriate for testing and should throw it away.
  3. 10-15cc of urine sample from the middle should put in the container.
  4. Immediately close the cover.
  5. The internal part of container is sterile. Do not touch inside or bottom surface of container and strictly refrain from washing the sample container.

*Correct collecting Stool test:

  1. The sample should place in special container directly. 
  2. About infants, sample can be transferred to the sample container by an absolang. If the sample is diluted, sample should be collected from the plastic part and sample on cotton part is not suitable.
  3. Sample should not mixed by water or urine.
  4. If any object or living thing has seen, inside the container has to through it away.
